STRUT YOUR STUFF – a special kind of membership showcase
Written by Bob Moreen:

STRUT began as NEWCOMERS’ SHOWCASE, with the premise of giving new CCP members the opportunity to showcase their talents by presenting a short cabaret show. The name was changed when it became clear that folks other than new members might find it useful to have an outlet to show their wares. And, indeed, some more experienced members have used STRUT to experiment and try-out new ideas.

STRUT also has offered, to performers who may have never presented a cabaret show, the opportunity to experience putting together a structured performance of related songs and dialogue [in segments of 12 to 15 minutes each], something a bit more involved and more structured than what a typical open-mic experience offers. A number of past “Strutters” have gone on to present their first (and subsequent) cabaret shows.

With some folks who participated in STRUT, we concentrated more on developing the continuity and dialogue, while with others the song/stage performance has taken precedence. This has been somewhat a “call” on my part, depending upon what I felt would be of most value to each performer.

CCP membership is available to folks at many levels of experience and expertise. Some of CCP’s members may never actually present their own, professional cabaret show. Participation in STRUT YOUR STUFF can give them a greater knowledge and understanding of the art of cabaret through “learning-by-doing”, which is often the only way to really learn about something.

STRUT is, I believe, unique amongst CCP offerings in that it offers the cabaret experience to those members who wish to learn about the art of cabaret and their own relationship to it as well as expand their practical/personal understanding and participation.

And for the more experienced performer, STRUT offers the opportunity to “take a chance” in a relaxed, supportive cabaret environment.

Strut Your Stuff participants. Music directed by Bob Moreen from 2007 to 2012.
